If James is deviating away from having lawyers as main characters, it's probably a good thing.
Deadlocked follows the life of the first female supreme justice-an extreme left winger. So when she hears about an abortion case coming their way, she readies her vote.
But her life is slowly being worked on by a local pastor just wanting to help. At first she shuts him down. Until he starts to say things that make sense.
Meanwhile, a female defendant is defending her client, a young girl who is suing and abortion clinic for aborting her baby without consent, she says. This case eventually reaches the Supreme Court. The judges' vote is actually shocking.
The characters are believable. I believe James is getting better at the art of character development.
The end of the story is different and unexpected, something James is new at. The book has a good, witty dialogue end that could easily be continued.
But not really. I hate sequels.
Anyway, this book is worth your time.
