Suspense having to do with the Mafia probably needs to be a closed genre.
Final Witness is about a paralegal who finds herself caught up in a case involving several Mafia hit men trying to cover up a secret about her boss's court case. For an entire part of the book, she is held hostage on a boat by one of the Mafia men. There are many other plot points to point out except for the predictable end.
The characters are just whatever. They could be better.
One saving grace about this book is the lack of a romantic subplot. If there was one, it would be worse.
Basically, James Scott Bell has yet to master the art of writing original plots. He still has a little ways to go.
