As with most debut novels, Forgiving Solomon Long is not a wower. It's about a mafia hit man named Solomon Long who's been sent to a certain suburb of Chicago to eliminate a few people. A group of police detectives try to follow his every move but keep getting confused.
The plot also focuses on one of those police detectives, and his fractured relationship with his wife.
Several characters are introduced into the story that are the people who are eliminated by Solo. This is kind of an interesting touch, getting the reader attached to the character and than killing them off.
The characters overall are just average, as is the plot. I think the end could have been better, without so much false suspense.
Everything about this book was just average for me. It was neither good nor bad, as it is with most debut novels.
